SMU Reunion - Brought to you by Gazz Wood -
Long before LondonMeUp was LeedsMeUp, and at the same time as that was StaffordMeUp. taking place in the rural city of Stafford where there are two pubs and a video shop, SMU was the backward cousin of The Me Up Network. It never let that get it down though, and even today SMU is available to peruse and enjoy, with classic events like At The Pub and At The Other Pub II.
This past week, current LondonMeUp member and previous StaffordMeUp founder Nick O'Mahoney deemed to gather together the sum of his previous crew and invited myself and James along for the jaunt. Former SMU'ers included Lucky John "The Money" Money, Sean "The Fresh Prince of Kildaire" Cooper and Big Ste from "Get Ya Sen One".
I was incredibly late, of course, because I always am, but when I eventually showed up no thanks to James, everyone was a few beers deep at some swanky pub or other, and I got one in to catch up. It was your standard evening on the oil, apart from a bit before I got there when the boys were stopped at the doors of the pub and told that outside was closed. Outside... closed! The barmaid demanded they stay inside for the time being, marking the first ever experience any of them has had of being thrown in to a pub.
We discussed Lucky John's swine flu and headed over to The Coach and Horses, newly refurbished [IE/ they took some tables out and put some very tight booths in] to see if Ste's trademark Nottingham manner could snag us some more free posh nuts.
No.
Shit was shot, as well as breeze, while Nick worked up the courage to saunter over to some girls in one of the booths and tell them that they were inside and it was night, so it might be an idea to take off the sunglasses. Apparently he was "THIS CLOSE" to doing it before they got up and left. THIS CLOSE! Sh'yeah.
Banana in the pint happened too, which is a classic, and we all Rav'd out to complete the night.
...if none of this makes sense it's because there are a few in jokes there and one of the main occurrences of the evening is something I'm not permitted to discuss. It was a funny night though. Luckily you'll probably just go over to the pictures now and have a chuckle at them and think no more about this write-up.
Phew.
