My 2 Pints
Some may presume this is somewhat of a needless review of a plastic, ‘pop-up’, franchised pub. Like reviewing a Wetherspoons. All the same drinks, same price, same atmosphere (that is none). Same review right? Well that may be so. And whilst if you’ve been to one Wetherspoons, you’ll already know what another is like, I’ve never been to another Pitcher & Piano, so we’ll be doing this my way. If you’ve got a problem with that, take it up with someone else as I won’t listen to you.
Make sure they’re someone I know, who can write down messages.
Pitcher & Piano is one of those bars that thinks it’s a local. It expects it can charge higher prices for nice lighting and napkins, and still get a steady flow of regulars. Truth is, people are easily pleased and it’s actually able to do this pretty easily. There are so many offices around Liverpool St. So many chumps, working for the weekend, waiting like cattle, against the rotating doors on a Friday afternoon, before spraying across town into the various bars like kids ‘breaking for summer’.
The place is full with this type of clientele. Businessmen/women. When I use the term, I mean people who work in an office. I’ve got nothing against offices, nor people working there in. I do it myself, and I love it. These people define themselves by working in ‘an office’ and they hate it. These are the people whose topics of conversation constantly include 1 of 3 things. Either the fact they have no money (because they wasted it all on drugs and things at the weekend) and how they have to wait until they get paid in order to live, or they’ve just been paid and shall therefore be getting fucked beyond belief in preparation to once again, complain that they never have money. Or, the third and more rare option, is when they’re actually out getting fucked beyond belief, wasting the money which they never have, and talking about past times when they were so fucked, they can’t sufficiently remember those times to be able to talk about them anyway.
My point is, that every time I’ve been in to the Pitcher & Piano on Liverpool St, I’ve either instantly wanted to leave. Or more often, instantly wanted everyone else to leave. Good thing, is that there are plenty of half-secluded area. Areas with a few small tables, or just a couple of sofas, If you don’t mind booking to get one of these booth areas, or you can get there sufficiently early to get a table, then it’s not too bad. But if you’d go to the trouble to book an area… why wouldn’t you book somewhere nicer?
